After care
Saniderm may be placed to size over the tattoo. Saniderm is a waterproof, breathable bandage that is great for healing and protecting tattoos. I suggest using aquaphor as aftercare ointment.
Day one: If Saniderm is used, leave your bandage on for at least 2-3 days. When you remove it, wash your tattoo with mild soap and water. Pat dry. Apply aquaphor. It is normal for there to be residue, blood or lymph when you remove your bandage.
Day one-four: It is important to wash your tattoo, pat dry and reapply aftercare ointment as necessary. Preferably a few times a day.
Day four-seven: After the first 4 days, you no longer need to wash your tattoo. Apply aquaphor as needed throughout the day. It is normal for tattoos to flake. Let it flake off naturally and DO NOT PICK.
Day seven-fourteen: At this point you can apply lotion. Continue avoiding swimming, pools, hot tubs, baths, or any water that contains harsh chemicals, like bleach.
Some initial soreness, redness, swelling, peeling or mild bleeding/fluid secretion is normal.
Seek medical attention if signs of infection occur such as:
increased redness and/or swelling
increased soreness or pain
continued bleeding, discharge or oozing of fluid
fever
heat or warmth at the site
red streaks originating from the site
swollen glands
